1/15/2010 – Shelter Spotlight
January 15, 2010
Good Afternoon, I Must First Apologize For The Posts Recently Being Submitted During The Late Afternoon Hours. My Schedule Has Been Crazy But Not To Worry The Requests And Reception Have Been Outstanding. That Being Said Let’s Head South Today And Take A Look At St. Matthew’s House. As Many Of You Know We Feature Groups And Shelter’s That Provide Outstanding Care To The Homeless & Hungry, St. Matthew’s House Goes Above And Beyond That Standard Of Care.
ST. MATTHEW’S HOUSE
2001 AIRPORT ROAD SOUTH NAPLES, FL 34112
“Since 1988, St. Matthew’s House (SMH) has provided housing, spiritual support and structured recovery programs for the homeless in our main facilities in Naples, FL. St. Matthew’s House can house 174 men, women and women with children in our combined facilities in Naples and Immokalee. The life expectancy for a chronically homeless person is 44 years of age for men and 40 years for women. It is the only segment of the population where women are not expected to live as long as men. The chronically homeless often have one or more serious and disabling health conditions, including mental health and/or substance abuse disorders. In 2007, 15 people who were current St. Matthew’s House residents or past residents passed away, and those ranged in age from 22 to 54”. – From Their Website – http://www.stmatthewshouse.org
1/8/2010 – Shelter Spotlight
January 8, 2010
Hey Folks, it’s day #8 of Operation:365 and boy are we growing in size and scope. Today, I want you to reflect for a moment, and imagine a world without your Blackberry, iPhones, Facebook, Twitters, and CNN. I want you to imagine what it would be like without Fox News, without ESPN and maybe without a vast food choice you get to normally have each night at dinner. I want you to think about what you can do for maybe an hour out of your week, to help someone less fortunate. Maybe give them a bag lunch, or help them cross the street, or even take them to a doctor, but let it be something because to them no matter what, it’s worth the effort.
Todays “Shelter Spotlight” is going to focus on a great soup kitchen in Homestead, FL. The Homestead Soup Kitchen has served about 800,000 meals since 1984, and continues to grow with each and every service. Guided by Ms. Juanita Smith, Homestead Soup Kitchen serves the surrounding communities by offering hot meals and comfort to those who are in need. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such drive and commitment displayed by a Board of Directors in my many years in the financial services marketplace. Homestead Soup Kitchen is located at 105 SW 3rd Ave, Homestead, Florida 33090 and, can be reached at (305) 245-7448.
“It is the mission of the Homestead Soup Kitchen to serve those members of our community in need of a hot meal, regardless of circumstances. By having a “no questions asked” policy, the Soup Kitchen provides in excess of 700 meals a week to people and families of the Greater Homestead/Florida City area and beyond”. – From Their Website – http://www.homesteadsoupkitchen.com
A Holiday Guide – For The Less Fortunate
November 24, 2009
We at Hatter & Beanz have thought of something interesting and, even though our idea may not be so unique it’s something for those who may be less fortunate or those that may have been hit hard by the economic downfall.
So readers, as we give thanks for our families, our friends and the roofs over our heads we have built for you a list of soup kitchens and shelters and services in each of the 50 states. (Oh by the way, we personally checked each reference).
So here’s how this is going down, we’re going to sort this by state, and right now our goal is to list one or two organizations by per state for this year. At Christmas, we’ll add one or two more, per state.
