Good Evening Ladies & Gents! Tonight We Focus On A Place That’s Offering Shelter To Not Only The Homeless, But Rather To Those In Situations That Might Harmful To Themselves Or Even Others. Tonight We Are Going To Feature Compass House. Under The Direction Of Sylvia Nadler, Compass House Goes Beyond The Generic Definition Of Homelessness And Provides Opportunity To Those Who May Be Less Fortunate. Sometimes When We’re Going To And From Work We See The Man Playing His Guitar Or The Woman Walking With A Crutch, But Rarely Do We See A Child From An Unbearable Broken Home, Or A Child Literally Left For Dead By Unwanting Parents. For Those Children There Is A New Ray Of Hope And That Is The Compass House. The Compass House Is Located At 370 Linwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14209. They Can Be Reached By Phone (If During A Crisis) At: (716) 886-0935. If Calling During Normal Business Hours They Can Be Reached By (716) 886-1351.

Safe Place began in Louisville, Kentucky in 1983 as an outreach effort of the YMCA Center for Youth Alternatives. The Safe Place program began in response to the many calls to the shelter from young people who did not have a way to get there. As a result, many youth trying to cope with personal or family crisis situations never reached the shelter. To address this issue, Project Safe Place was developed, designating businesses and community buildings as locations where youth could easily access help. Its’ success has prompted the implementation of this youth shelter outreach program in 714 communities throughout the United States“. – From Their Website – http://www.compasshouse.org

Hey There Readers! I hope you’re enjoying this arctic weather blast that most of United States is feeling right now, because I’m certainly not. That being said, I’m here (slightly frozen) with your daily dose of the Shelter Spotlight. Today, we’re taking a trip to The Healing Place in Louisville, Kentucky operated by its Chairman and CEO Jay Davidson.

The Healing Place is unique in that it offers some this country’s most comprehensive recovery programs for both Men and Women. Whether you know someone suffering from alcoholism, drug addiction, or someone on the verge of a breakdown The Healing Place is the answer. Offering shelter for the homeless through a regimented program sets The Healing Place apart from various other shelters in the area. Like many other shelters, The Healing Place doesn’t discriminate against anyone no matter if you are Hispanic, African-American or Caucasian. The Healing Place is located at 1020 West Market Street – Louisville, KY 40202. They can be reached via phone at 502-583-0369.

Here’s An Overview Of Their Overnight Shelter Program:At 2:30 p.m. every day, tickets numbered one to the total number of men waiting for a bed are passed. At 4 p.m. a random drawing determines those who will stay in the shelter that night; all others have to find alternate lodging. At check-in, each person will receive a pillow, sheets, and a blanket. The person will be able to take a hot shower, make their bed, and get a set of clothing from the clothes closet. They will then eat supper, and the lights are turned out at 9 p.m. Wake-up is at 6 a.m., followed by breakfast. The overnight guest must be out of the shelter by 8 a.m“. – From The Healing Place’s Website – http://www. thehealingplace.org

We at Hatter & Beanz have thought of something interesting and, even though our idea may not be so unique it’s something for those who may be less fortunate or those that may have been hit hard by the economic downfall.

So readers, as we give thanks for our families, our friends and the roofs over our heads we have built for you a list of soup kitchens and shelters and services in each of the 50 states. (Oh by the way, we personally checked each reference).

So here’s how this is going down, we’re going to sort this by state, and right now our goal is to list one or two organizations by per state for this year. At Christmas, we’ll add one or two more, per state.
