Matt Schilling, aka Hatter, graduated from Towson University. In 2006 he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science with a concentration in Middle Eastern Relations. He was credited with constructing several thesis’ on the relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia while taking classes in International Relations. After working for various financial services companies here in New York, he founded Hatter & Beanz along with his long time friend Jillian Vignola. With both having a long-time passion for food, and slight knack for an unforseen market, H&B was launched on November 18th, 2009. Following a great start, awesome traffic, and great reception, Hatter & Beanz wanted to break out and go BIG. What followed, wasn’t your traditional New Year’s Resolution.

On December 31st, 2009, while discussing what a few friends were going to improve upon for the new year, Hatter had realized that going bigger, may just play out to be better. This wasn’t your typical resolution, it involved a daily responsibility that included a multitude of people that aren’t generally acknowledged on a daily basis. You see, he was about to reach out and touch hearts that haven’t been touched in a very long time, he was about to bring social networking to a whole new level (where no one dare go before), and he was about to change the way we look at our everyday lives. He was about to profile, via the Hatter and Beanz website, Soup Kitchens, Food Pantries, and Homeless Shelters from around the country and serve as a conduit for each and every one of thier messages. This daily responsibility has been named Operation:365 and all posts regarding this will carry with them that segment title of Shelter Spotlight.

I am glad he had that idea. It’s been good for a lot of people. I am sure he got a lot in return.
