  1. Nickie Pimental Says:

I was a resident at Ruth’s Place for a year, Mach 2010 celebrated a year of living on my own after the help I received at the shelter. As a college educated woman, who once had a career in broadcast communications prior to becoming disabled after an accident, I never once thought I’d ever become one of the thousands of people who become homeless. I thank the tireless workers and supporters of the shelter daily for the second chance they gave me. The idea that people choose to be homeless is ridiculous. Many people give up on the idea of ever becoming self sufficient. They choose to take the “easy” way out, and check out of life entirely. When you believe you have no place in society, it gives you an excuse not to try anymore. These individuals need reassurance that they CAN do it, they can be successful in life.
I will never be a true success story until I can give back to those who have given me so much!
