1/12/10 – Shelter Spotlight

January 12, 2010

Good Morning Folks! As Many Of You Know, I Spent My First Year Of College Up North In A Very Cold But Very Awesome Town Called Henniker, NH. About 45 Minutes From Henniker Is Where I’m Going To Focus Today’s Entry. There’s A Town That Goes By The Name Of Nashua And In That Town They Have A Soup Kitchen. This Soup Kitchen Tends To Be Just A Little Bit Different Then All The Rest. Why? They Simply Do It All And Then Some…The Nashua Soup Kitchen Is Located at 42 Chestnut Street, Nashua NH, 03061. They Can Be Reach By Phone At (603) 889-7770.

The Nashua Soup Kitchen can only fill its mission to serve the poor and homeless men, women and children of our community with the help of our neighbors and friends. Some participate in the daily life of the “kitchen” as volunteers; others contribute cash or goods to help meet the needs of these less fortunate people in our community. Some are Board Members; others volunteer on one of several fundraising committees. NSK&S always has need for volunteers to help us in our kitchen, shelters and with our many programs. Volunteers come from all walks of life. They come as individuals wanting to give back to the community, as members of churches, synagogues, scout troops, civic organizations, schools, and businesses. Our volunteers range in age from the youngest children baking cookies at home to our 85 year old kitchen volunteer. Our volunteers do much more than serve meals at NSK&S. They sort and shelve food in the pantry, and organize drives to generate food and personal care donations. We’ve had volunteers help build play areas for our shelters, pick up food donated by local grocers and restaurants, stuff newsletters for mailing and assist on maintenance projects. At the shelters, they cook dinner, read to children and help them with their homework. Volunteers who serve on our board of directors set policy and ensure the financial stability of the agency“. – From Thier Website: http://www.nsks.org
